B.A. in Art Learning Outcomes

B.A. students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate strong creative, verbal, and technical skills in both 2-D and 3-D media.
2. Recognize the interdependence of content and form.
3. Understand and value perceptual, formal, expressive, and conceptual approaches to art making.
4. Appreciate the role of play, exploration and investigation in creative studio practice and engage in creative problem solving.
5. Deliver discerning critiques of their own work and that of others.
6. Engage in critical reasoning about human creativity in relation to broad historical overviews and social insight.
7. Develop a personal thematic focus in their work for the senior exhibit.
8. Use current professional practices to present, communicate, and promote their work.

B.F.A. students will be able to:

7. Demonstrate a basic understanding of some of the critical theories that have influenced contemporary artists and their approaches to art making.
8. Develop a personal thematic focus in a cohesive body of work that shows complexity and nuance of thought.
9. Create a body of work that is a viable, competitive portfolio of work that could be presented in application to a MFA program or shows readiness to participate in the field of creative professions.
10. Use current professional practices to present, communicate, and promote their work.
11. Develop the skills, practices, and habits of mind necessary for creating a sustainable studio practice well beyond college.
