The Philosophy major will be:

  • Able to read, interpret, and analyze primary texts and secondary sources in philosophy.
  • Familiar with central philosophers, major movements, and key issues in the history of Western philosophy.
  • Capable of formulating coherent philosophical arguments of their own, including clearly stating premises and conclusion(s) and articulating reasonable objections as well as responses to those objections.
  • Come to understand and appreciate philosophy as an activity valuable for its own sake but also valuable for fostering critical reasoning skills, cultivating habits of clear expression, and developing active reading and listening habits.
