Student Groups

Gonzaga Theatre & Dance offer many opportunities to get involved with others who are enthusiastic about the performing arts. Review the student groups below for anything that might interest you.

GUTS

GUTS stands for Gonzaga University Theatre Sports, and we are an improv comedy group. Our members include both students in the theatre and dance department and numerous other departments and disciplines throughout the GU academic community. We are a family of improvisers, working together to entertain the Gonzaga community, and improve ourselves. We were established in 1987 as an alternative to late night drinking. Today the GUTS community is dedicated to the craft of improv and to all who share the stage with us.

At GUTS we practice and perform Improvisational Comedy similar to such popular TV shows as "SNL" or "Whose Line is it Anyway?" Using improv we create comedic scenes and situations and then work at perfecting these skills during our open-to-all GUTS practices that are held twice a week, Tuesday & Thursday, 9:30pm-11:30pm.

The great thing is we then share our craft with the GU community. We produce a monthly short form show. Admission is by a $1 suggested donation. Check out "Our Season" for performance dates and details!

Honor Societies

Theatre students may qualify to join Alpha Psi Omega, a National Theatre Honor Society. General information can be found by contacting Kathleen Jeffs, D. Phil, Chair & Assistant Professor.

Dance students who may wish to qualify to join the National Honors Society for Dance Arts should contact Suzanne Ostersmith, MFA, Dance Program Director & Instructor.

Dance Club

Dance Club is a student-run club aimed at giving all students the opportunity to contribute to Gonzaga Dance and find their own ways to experience dance. Many Gonzaga Dance events are coordinated by the student leaders of Dance Club. Faculty also works closely with the Dance Club Board to organize fundraisers, programs and workshops. Dance Club is also home to Boundless Dance Classes where students volunteer their time to teach weekly classes that are available to everyone in the Gonzaga community for free. Dance Club Board can be reached at danceclub@gonzaga.edu.
